It’s been a while since I’ve written about running…mainly because I haven’t been doing much of it (if you’re new to this blog, I’m injured and am having some major issues with my IT band). BUT…while I was shopping last year, I came up with an idea of how I could incorporate running in my blog without doing it…and that’s how $10 Tuesday was born!
Each week, I’ll be featuring a running product that I purchased on the cheap, for $10 or less. This week’s item is a pair of compression socks.
I found out that they have Compression socks at Walmart from my mom, who has suffered a number of blood clots over the past couple of years. That’s right, these socks are used for something other than running! After my mom suffered from her third blood clot, her doctor suggested I take a blood test, and I found out I have this rare genetic disorder that makes me susceptible to getting them, too. So when I take long road trips or travel in a plane I have to wear compression socks. I didn’t feel the need to buy any fancy, colored ones, so I bought this pair of Med Peds at Walmart. They offer moderate compression, and the first time I wore them, I swear I could feel my circulation improve! Even better, you get two pair in a packet for a total price of $8.98!
This is a no frills pair of compression socks, meaning the only color is black, but I wouldn’t have any problem running in them. If you do decide to buy a pair, you can get them here or in store, near the pharmacy. I found mine on a rack near the end cap.
Tell me about a good bargain you found while recently shopping for running gear!
What a great idea! Most compression socks are like $50! I am sorry you are having IT band issues. Is that what is causing your knee pain? What are you doing to rehab it? I know a really good IT Band stretch. Go here: http://throughheatherslookingglass.com/it-band-stretches/ I do the one she does where she balances on the back of the couch. Feels sooooo good!
I STILL haven’t gone to the doctor about it yet (just switched health insurance providers and I’m waiting for my new card to arrive), but I’m 99% sure it’s my IT band because it feels like an elastic band that’s over stretched in my leg. Plus, my knee cracks all the time. Either way, I know that if it hurts while I’m walking the dogs, I probably shouldn’t run. I’ll have to try out that exercise, though!
Aww, sorry to hear about your ITB issues. I hope you can run again soon! And thanks for the info about the compression socks…I may have to hit a Wal Mart to get myself a few pairs! That’s such a bargain. 🙂
You can get compression socks at Wal Mart???? That is so cool! lol…..they’re usually crazy expensive online. :S I really hope your IT Band eases up soon. 🙂
